Walking into any Sephora store, I honestly feel like a kid in a candy store! There are countless choices and beautiful displays. Sephora is THE spot for millennials to get their hands on the newest and latest cosmetics and skincare products.
As one of my favorite beauty companies, Sephora never disappoints: be it company culture, product selection, and expansion strategy! Working at the corporate office extended my appreciation for the company. My role is an interesting one. I never imagined to have the opportunity to work for an established beauty company. Since June, I took over as a Project Manager on the Brand Updates, Merchandising Operations Team.
Believe it or not, each brand that has a fixture in the store (be it in makeup, hair, skincare, or fragrance) participates in anything from 1-15 updates per year. Multiply that by the 60+ brands on the color (makeup) team, we as project managers can have between 50-65 projects to manage at a time. All parties involved must align with the agreed upon in-store dates. Each week, we make sure to coordinate with the graphic and fixture companies to make sure all projects are tracking well and milestones are being met. Other days might involve aligning with the merchants (within Sephora) on dates, assortments, etc. At the end of the day, the job entails making sure customers have positive in-store shopping experiences.
Brands within Sephora
Some of the brands I get to manage include Givenchy, Guerlain, Bobbi Brown, Too Faced, Anastasia, and Buxom. At Sephora, we live on acronyms. I would say the learning curve is steep in the beginning; it is a “sink or swim” environment. It’s been empowering to work with women who respect you for who you are, which was truly refreshing considering the other jobs I’ve had.Jumping into a role that I knew very little about, I adapted pretty quickly.
In August, my manager unexpectedly took some time off. With a couple team members short, I knew I had to step up and help cover the needs of the team. This included leading the weekly calls and taking initiative. The director of the team surprised me with a bunch of beauty products as a token of thanks. All of this came as a direct result of my consistent hard work and effort.
In the video below, I will reveal all the gifted goodies and share my review on the products.
