Sometimes we all need some inspiration to get us motivated for the start of a new week. Here are my top 5 TED talks to give you a renewed burst of energy to walk into Monday confident and proud of who you are and who you are becoming!
Susan David, Ph.D – The gift and power of emotional courage
This is a deeply moving and amazing talk on emotional agility, which is essentially mastery over our emotions, thoughts, and stories. However, the talk is really about confronting uncomfortable feelings because “discomfort is the price of admission to a meaningful life.”
I will definitely be picking up her book Emotional Agility: Get Unstuck, Embrace Change, and Thrive in Work and Life.
Adam Grant – Are you a giver or a taker?
In today’s world of givers, matchers, and takers, Grant brings to life three styles of social interaction in his book Give and Take: A revolutionary Approach to Success. To Grant, success does not have to come at others’ expense. This is definitely a go-to TED talk for me, and one of my favorites.
Albert-Laszlo Barabasi – The real relationship between your age and your chance of success
Network theorist talks about the difference between performance and success – your performance is about you, and your success is about all of us. The key to success comes down to a mix of finding what you are good at and sticking with it. Ironically, Mr. Barabasi has a really simple message, that sometimes we just need to hear from a different perspective.
Amy Purdy – Living Beyond Limits
Powerful talk about how to draw inspiration from life’s obstacles and use our challenges to push past our limits and live a life without barriers. I saw Amy speak live at a convention a few years ago, and her talk has stuck with me forever.
Emilie Wapnick – Why Some Of Us Don’t Have One True Calling
Emilie celebrates “multipotentialites” – those of us with many interests, many jobs over a lifetime, and many interlocking potentials and creative pursuits. To me, her talk really hits home. For those feeling lost or stuck, she suggests an alternative way of living, which is to explore those curiosities which will lead a happier, more authentic life. It’s important to embrace your inner wiring, whatever that may be.
Hope you gained some inspiration from these top picks. Which one was your favorite and why?
